Naval base uses unique strategy to combat suicides, stress: A dog

By Terace Garnier | Fox News  Every day, Senior Chief Brad greets sailors and marines as they enter a military clinic for their regular doctor’s appointments. Throughout the day, he makes his rounds and visits patients sitting in the waiting area, cuddling with them briefly. If he senses they are down, he takes action.

But he’s no medical professional. He’s a golden retriever yellow lab mix initially trained as a seeing-eye dog, a post-traumatic stress disorder therapy dog and, now, a stress dog…

PwC to Expand, Anchor New Building at MetWest International in Tampa’s Westshore Business District

PwC Signs Long-Term Lease for 150,000 Additional Square Feet

MetWest Two - home of PwC

MetWest Two – home of PwC

Four years after Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP moved into a 250,000 square foot build-to-suit at MetWest International the company has leased an additional 150,000 square feet to anchor a new 10-story office building. The Big Four assurance, tax, and advisory firm has signed a long-term lease with MetLife for approximately 150,000 square feet at MetWest International, an award-winning mixed-use development located in Tampa’s Westshore Business District.

MetLife will break ground on the 250,000 square foot office building in first quarter 2018 on a site adjacent to PwC’s existing office building. An additional 100,000 square feet will be available for lease at the new building to be named MetWest Three.

“The new space reflects growth for PwC in Tampa over the next five to 10 years,” said Joe Killian, managing partner of PwC’s shared services center in Tampa. PwC is one of the area’s largest employers with 3,000 employees. The new space will accommodate growth in PwC’s assurance and tax departments with an additional 350 hires anticipated. “PwC has grown its Tampa operations with experienced hires as well as recent college graduates, said Killian. “Tampa’s culture and weather are a big draw, especially for millennials. The MetWest development is really convenient to the airport, and the facilities itself are fantastic plus there are a lot of great restaurants for people to go to lunch or dinner,” said Killian.

PwC was represented by brokers Timothy Dempsey, Greg Maurer-Hollaender, and William Obregon of CBRE.  The project’s owner, MetLife was represented by Angela Odell, Cushman & Wakefield Senior Director of Brokerage Services.

“The central location in the Westshore area as well as the many high-quality amenities the development offers are strategic factors contributing to the success of MetWest,” said Chuck Davis, regional director of MetLife’s Southeast real estate office. MetWest International currently includes three office buildings totaling 743,000 square feet which are at 99% occupancy.  “The timing for new office space couldn’t be better, said Odell”.  “Westshore is at a historically low vacancy at around 10% with MetWest office space at 1% vacancy,” said Odell. Odell expects interest in the new building’s remaining 100,000 square feet to be brisk.

AC Marriott One of the Most Anticipated Development Projects in 2017

83 Degrees Media cites Tampa’s MetWest International’s AC by Marriott hotel one of the most anticipated development projects of 2017.

ac-hotel-tampa-rendering-webOut-of-town visitors will have a new place to stay in early 2018 when the AC Hotel by Marriott opens at MetWest International in Westshore.

The hotel brand is meant to appeal to millennial travelers.

“We’re excited to introduce the AC Hotel by Marriott brand to Tampa,” says Javier Garcia, Managing Director of the PRISA Group, which is building the hotel with Orlando-based Welbro Building Corp. “The AC Hotel brings a new lifestyle hospitality concept to the vibrant Westshore business district, combining a modern, European design aesthetic with exciting bar and lounge offerings, all next to the many food and beverage offerings of the MetWest International project.”

MetWest International is a 32-acre mixed-use development in the heart of Tampa’s Westshore business district with retail, hotel, residential and office spaces. It’s located near Tampa International Airport and International Plaza.

Ground was broken on the hotel in September. It’s slated to have 175 rooms and 96,000 square feet of space.

“The guest rooms follow simplistic design and include a signature closet, work desk, luggage bench and a 47-inch TV,” Garcia says. “Clean-cut, linear aesthetics highlight the public space areas, inclusive of a collaborative space with a communal table and reading section.”

There will also be lounge seating, a multimedia area, a market, two media salons, a business and social events room, fitness center, pool and pool bar, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property.

MetWest One of Very Selective Sites Chosen for New Marriott Property

As for Tampa’s AC Hotel, Federico says the opportunity is to bring a brand to stand out against the run-of-the-mill hotels there, one that can appeal to a younger audience.

“The opportunity in Tampa is…a lifestyle select-service hotel for Marriott in an otherwise very homogeneous market,” he says, noting it’s next to the MetWest International mixed-use complex.
